Virtualization has become the backbone of modern IT infrastructure, enabling resource efficiency and operational flexibility. While commercial solutions dominate the market, open-source platforms like Proxmox Virtual Environment (Proxmox VE) offer a powerful and cost-effective alternative. This paper presents an in-depth analysis of Proxmox VE as a viable virtualization solution for business environments. We explore its integrated architecture, which supports both full virtualization with KVM and lightweight containerization with LXC, as well as enterprise-grade features such as high availability (HA) and live migration. Through a conceptual case study, we demonstrate how Proxmox VE can reduce the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) without compromising on performance and reliability. This paper aims to provide insights for IT decision-makers on the strategic viability of Proxmox VE as a strategic choice in the business virtualization landscape.
